Heart of a Warrior

by Jack E. Dawson

He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners.
Luke 4:18

The heart of a true warrior goes to battle for others’ good, even at the cost of his own life. He kneels at the edge of the world, reaching out to those crying out for liberty as the anguished face of captivity appears in the rock beside him. Weapons ready for battle, he is equipped for ministry. A child approaches the hand that gave him a cookie, now offering a toy lamb that represents Jesus, the Lamb of God, as his wounded fingers sign “I love you.” The strong left hand defends Old Glory, wind torn and bullet riddled but still flying. Five poppies beside him honor the five branches of service. Behind him Lady Liberty reaches out to the “tired…poor…huddled masses yearning to breathe free” as smoke rising from the twin towers forms a cross speaking God’s grace and mercy, the greatest freedom of all.
