Does he not leave the ninety-nine in the open country and go after the lost sheep until he finds it?
The man searching intently for his one lost sheep portrays the Great Shepherd’s heart. He not only represents the Lord, but also every earthly shepherd or pastor or Christian who loves the lost and desires to see them set free. He is the rescuer. The little lamb represents those who are caught in the grip of a sin-filled life that promises nothing but hurt, pain and ultimately, death. Do you see Jesus in the rocks behind the rescuer? What comfort it brings to know that the Great Shepherd is always searching for the lost, desiring to offer freedom and life to all who will accept Him.
