“Pointing the Way” by Jack E. Dawson

Hi everyone, it’s Jack and Nancy’s daughter Sarah.  It’s been about four and a half months since my Mom passed away.  Many have asked how we are all doing, especially my Dad.  The days are still so tender and the void she leaves is tremendous.  It seems every aspect of life has been touched by her absence and yet God has been so faithful to provide and comfort during some hard days.

It was about this time last year that my Mom and I decided to share this painting, “Pointing the Way,” for the Friday Feature.  We were talking about the importance of passing along our faith to the next generation. It seems the world has turned upside down in many ways and there is an all out war against truth.

At the time we didn’t realize our world was about to drastically change. She was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer a short month later.  Despite the debilitating days that followed my Mom continued to plant seeds of faith in those around her through song and a steadfast peace found in Christ alone.  I’m so thankful and encouraged by her testimony.  We ALL are called to “point the way” for those around us, especially the generations who come behind.

My Mom ran her race at full steam.  In fact, just days before the diagnosis she was still leading the music and directing the choir at our church.  I went back to watch that last service she led and tears came to my eyes as I remembered the song she had selected to sing that particular day. She LOVED this song and was so passionate about the message. We shared this song along with this painting last year.  The name? “Pass the Promise.”

I can’t think of a more fitting song as she truly handed off the baton so to speak.  She had completed her assignment (and I think SO WELL I might add!!).  Those of us here still have a vital job to do.  We must boldly share the truth in this increasingly dark world.  The hope Christ is a message our world desperately needs to hear.

 This painting shares a simple message.  The older gentleman is pointing the way for the young man.  He is explaining the promise of Jesus that whoever believes in Him will have eternal life.  The two major trees in the painting depict  2 destinies – one is death – the other is life. 

If there was ever a time we need to pass on the promise of Christ and heaven – it is now.  I’m sure you can think of someone in your life who would benefit from your testimony.
