Inside Jack’s Studio…
Hi everyone! I’m Sarah, Jack’s daughter. I thought today I would take over the blog and give you a little behind the scenes look into my Dad’s art studio. Growing up I loved sneaking inside to see his latest creation. In fact, I still enjoy doing that today! I love the organized chaos of paintbrushes and canvases, little paint globs and color studies. You never know what drawing or sketch you might discover….
There is something so amazing about the various giftings God has given His people. Some have the selfless ability to care for others. Some can teach and captivate their students. And some are given the gift of translating the physical world into a tangible moment with a paintbrush. My Dad certainly was given a wonderful ability in visual arts, but also an ability to combine that with spiritual application. I think it’s fascinating to see an artist in action and witness a painting come to life.
Often times I will walk in and notice a new piece learning against the wall or tucked away behind some other paintings. He spends a lot of time studying different techniques. A lot of these paintings are called “studies.” They are painted quickly (some of them in an hour!) and serve to keep learning and growing as an artist. Just this week I was in his studio and listening to him talk about the techniques of a different artist. It’s encouraging to know we should always keep learning and pushing forward.
Thought today I would share of few of these never before seen pieces. Keep in mind, these are just studies and not finished works…although to me they look pretty finished!! Ha!!
I love perspective of this one and the movement the row of corn add to the painting.
Here is another. I love the way the sunshine adds warmth to the snowy hillside and the cozy inviting light common from the windows.
And finally what do you think of this? Lots of contrast in the color and light!
