There is something beautiful about observing two people who are committed to one another. We are privileged to know several couples who have been married over 70 years. Wow. I don’t know about you – but that says commitment. In a day when the word “love” is used frivolously by anyone who even has a slight fascination in another person, the word “commitment” is so much deeper. It pictures an undying devotion and steadfastness that cannot be broken by the trials of a relationship.
The Word of God provides the foundation for such a relationship. First let’s find The Word in the painting. Notice the block wall supporting the bridge. Jack has placed the names of several books of the Bible on those blocks. What a picture of how vital the Word of God is for us.

It provides a wonderful instruction book if we will only read it and learn, which leads us to our memory verse for this painting.
“Love always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.”
1 Corinthians 13:7
That whole chapter in 1 Corinthians should be our “go to” verse every time we are tempted to allow frustration, anger, resentment, and separation to tear a relationship apart. And this isn’t just for married couples – it’s for all relationships. So how in the world can we do this? We look once again at the painting and let’s see if we can find the dove. Do you see it under the bridge? It represents the Spirit of God which is within us who believe. This Spirit enables us to accomplish this work of commitment in a world where it may seem like a rare thing.

And the word, COMMITMENT doesn’t just apply to our earthly relationships, most importantly it applies to our relationship with God Himself through Jesus Christ. Today and every day we can make a commitment to live for Him. And I have a feeling that when we make that commitment to Him – it will improve our commitment to those around us.
